Flexible/Modular Delivery Working Group

Colleges Integrating Immigrants to Employment (CIITE) Phases 1 and 2 identified the barriers internationally trained immigrants (ITIs) must overcome when searching for employment commensurate with their skills and education. Furthermore, it called on Ontario colleges to expand and diversify the flexible modular programs they offer to better address ITIs’ specific needs, and respond to their particular economic realities. The flexible modular delivery activity was undertaken to explore how best to address this clearly identified gap.

CIITE’s Executive Council recommended the formation of a small working group  comprised of college representatives to explore the various flexible modular programs currently offered at Ontario colleges.

The mandate of the WG was to scan the variety of flexible program delivery modes so as to inform the ongoing dialogue between Colleges Ontario and MTCU.  Members of the WG embarked on what proved to be an exciting journey of discovery. With coordination and guidance provided by the CIITE Project Office, the WG compiled detailed information reflecting the various ways colleges supported immigrants and other non-traditional cohorts through flexible program delivery.

The WG concluded its mandate with a set of informed recommendations that reflect the core principles embedded in successfully delivering programs in a flexible modular mode. The CIITE project office and members of the WG believe that offering a wide range of creative and sustainable delivery modes at Ontario colleges will encourage a systemic shift to further increase and improve programs offered to ITI students and other adult, non-traditional cohorts.
